SOLA'S STORYTIME
The Thankful Little Boy By Patricia Hayes |
Little Timmy was a very sad kid. He would go to the park and watch all the other kids run and play. He would sit in the playground at school and watch the other kids play soccer and baseball. You see, he couldn't run and jump like other kids. He couldn't play sports or ride a bike. Timmy was born with a bad hipand he has never walked in his life. When he went to bed at night he would lay there and dream of playing Major League Baseball, or of running down the beach with his dog. Timmy didn't make friends very easily either, because he felt left out when his friends went out to play ball and such games. So he stayed pretty much on his own. One Monday night Timmy went to bible study with his Mom. The Pastor was talking about all the miracles Jesus performed. Timmy was fascinated. He listened intently to every word. On the way home he asked his Mom if he could read her bible. She was delighted and said, "yes", and handed it to him. In bed that night Timmy read about the miracles of Jesus healing the sick and the lame. He read about a government official who's son was dying in Capernaum, and how the official asked Jesus to go to Capernaum and heal his son. Jesus said to him, "None of you will ever believe unless you see miracles and wonders." "Sir," replied the official, "come with me before my child dies." So Jesus said to him, "Go, your son will live!" The official believed Jesus' words and went. On his way home his servants met him with the news, "Your boy is going to live!" He asked them what time it was when his son got better, and they answered, "It was one o'clock yesterday afternoon when the fever left him." The official remembered that was the very hour when Jesus had told him. "Your son will live!" 'Wow' Timmy said. He was really impressed. He thought about other sermons he had heard the Pastor speak of. One word always stayed with him, and that was Faith. Timmy's Mom came in to settle him down for the night, so Timmy asked her about faith. She explained that faith is believing in things not seen. Faith is believing that Jesus will help you no matter what and that your prayers are heard and answered. She sat on the bed and said to Timmy, "Honey, faith is when you pray to Jesus for something or someone, and you really believe that He will answer your prayers." Timmy smiled and asked his Mom to help him pray. She smiled with a tear in her eye and held him in her arms and listened as he prayed. "Father, I thank you for being with me each and everyday. I thank you for my family and the love they share with me. I thank you for your love and for watching over us. Father, I thank you for the doctors who try so hard to help me walk. I thank you for everything I have. But Lord, I ask you to help the doctors find a way to get me on my feet. Father, if I am not meant to walk please help me find a way to play with other people. I would really like to play baseball, and other sports. I thank you Lord for listening to me today. Amen" Timmy's Mom kissed him on the cheek and left the room with tears rolling down her cheek. While Timmy slept he dreamed of playing basketball and competing in athletics. Only this time he wasn't running or walking. He wasn't on his feet. In this dream he was playing sports in his wheelchair. When he woke up in the morning he yelled "Mom, Mom!". His Mom ran into the room worried that he had hurt himself. But Timmy was sitting on his bed smiling brighter than he ever had. "Mom," he said, "I want to play basketball and try athletics." His Mom looked at him with a sad face and said son you know that isn't possible." Timmy smiled brighter and said, "Oh yes it is Mom. I can play disabled sports, in my wheelchair." His Mom looked at him and asked, "Yes you could. What made you think of it?" "It came to me in a dream last night" Timmy said. Timmy's Mom smiled and said, "That my son, is Jesus' answer to your prayers." "Timmy smiled and closed his eyes and said, "Dear Father, I thank you for answering my prayers. I know now that I may not be able to walk or run and play with other kids, but you have shown me there is a way. Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus!". |
